Severe weather can cause serious damage to roller shutters, leaving homes and businesses exposed and making everyday access difficult. Recently, we were called to a property where strong winds had blown down not just one but several shutters on the same street. This is how we managed the situation from start to finish and delivered a stronger, longer lasting replacement.
What happened
During the storm, the original shutter and the adjoining brick pillar were damaged beyond repair. While the customer waited for the insurance company to assess the claim, we removed the damaged shutter and the loose pillar so they could safely access their parking space.
Structural repairs first
To make sure the new shutter had the right foundation, we worked alongside Steve Mulvaney Building Services. The team rebuilt and reinforced the pillar with a steel beam and a concrete filled centre for added strength and stability. Getting the structure right is essential when replacing shutters after storm damage, as it reduces movement and improves long term performance.
The new shutter installation
Once the pillar was rebuilt, we supplied and fitted a new electric brown steel plastisol roller shutter with a powder coated frame on a remote control system. The result is a neat, durable and secure installation that is ready for everyday use and future bad weather.
